Icy Branch

I painted this piece for my dear friend Tom Wilkins.   It is my heartbreak that he died recently of  renal cancer.  Tom was an avid outdoorsmen who in his illness was not able to access his world as he would have wanted to.  While he was fighting I kept trying to present him with images that would bring him into the woods.  Tom was color blind, he could see yellow and blue only.  No red/green.   I learned this in 7th grade in a biology class with him.   I brought him "North Branch Woods"  a composition in green.  Tom said "I love it, but what are the colors you used?" I smacked my self in the head - how could I forget that about him!  But Tom just inhaled and chuckled. I loved him.

So the next painting I did for him was a celebration of yellow and blue.  He never saw it.....
